Sound Representation: Homosexuality

The Tv show in which i have decided to use to help explain how sound is used to represent homosexuality is skin.
Straight away you see the technical indicators of being a homosexual is, which is shown by Maxxie being alone.
This is shown by him being outside in the cold further highlighting the social turmoil which he is in and the segregation that he might be in.
The camera shot type of low shot further shows the physical drawbacks of being gay which is the down and low self-esteem that he would have been experiencing.
Th party noise is background because heightened with the use of pelanastic sound to mark the forefront of his emotions. the use of yellow behind him is usaully associated with happiness but yet what we see is the misery that maxxie experiences.

But this all resolved once maxxie friends is introduced into the scene because the camera movement that when conversing the communications beteen Maxxie and Anwar is equal.

Sound used to represent teenagers

The Tv Drama that i have decided to deconstruct in order to find out how representation is found for teenagers is Misfits.
Non-Diagetic:
While recapping the previous episode the sound used is fast pace to highlight immediately the fast paced lifestyle that the teenagers characters live. However what contrast to the representations of children is that the sound used is rather old fashionned and not at all current but more of a car song.
Despite this the non diagetic sound becomes more diagetic once it has finished recapping the previous episode.
Then it straight away cuts into the opening credits so  it is clearly apparent that loud music plays an important role in teenagers lives.
After it the non diagetic sound becomes pleanastic because the sound used is heighted and exxagerated to highlight maybe the seriousness of the next scene.
After the plot of the episode is established it cuts into diagetic sound swiftly, this is shown by "Nathan" The main Character calling his father, who we the audience actually hears the phone call.

Deconstruction Of Period Drama- Pride And Prejudice

To what extent is is Mr D'arcy in pride and prejudice represented as upper class?
The camera angle is one way in the which Mr D'arcy is potrayed as upper class by having a a low angle shot to demonstrate to the audience the power ad higher elevated position he is in, compared to everyone around him.
Further the  mis-en-scene plays a key role with the aid of long shots we get to see the whole estate which signifys his wealth and domain Moreover we establish the tranqulitty which comes along with being upper class.
Lastly there is a key editing technique used, the scene where the potrait of himslef  and the lady of the manner i presume are engaged in a shot reverse shot, though no dialogue is being used we still understand the form of communication that the lady and potrait are having as if their eyes where conversing by merely staring and meditating on one another.
however tghe main reason why i highlighted the potrait is because it also demonstrates how much the upper class simply throws away money on trival things. The potrait helps us to see Mr D'arcy love of himslef and arrogance in my opinion by wasting money on a potrait of himslef which could be the representation of the upper class entirely.  Hence why it is called pride and prejudice.

British Film Institute

The British Film institute is a chartitable orgainsation. Which encourages the development of films and also the eductaion behind television, arts and films to the younger generations.
The institute was founded in 1933. Despite its foundation resulting from a recommendation in a report on Film and National Life, at that time the institute was a private company, though it has received public money throughout its history - from the Privy Council and Treasury until 1965 and the various culture departments since then.
The institute was restructured following the Radcliffe Report of 1948 which recommended that it should concentrate on developing the appreciation of filmic art, rather than creating film itself.

Editing Techniques in Misfits

The editing techniques in Misfits is almost recognisable in the outset; the scens starts of the eye line match it helps identify the main characters and the rerason why they are in the scene.
It further starts of with a non diagetic narrative introduction of music, perhaps to highlight the seriousness of the crimes that occurred. further there is time compression in the main part of the episode to bring a more dramatic climax once the misfits actually realise they have these so called powers.
It further goes on to have shot reverse shot and match on action. this occurs when the "Misfits" are engaged in there community work . The first one you notice is when they cut away in the scene where the painting of the benches is taking place to focus more on the paint itself.

This episode is very high in it editing techniques for it continues to use more & more editing techniques throughout.

Single Drama

A Longer and more extended format, this can often be up to a film length like and hour and a half

Soap Opera

A soap opera, sometimes called "soap" for short is an ongoing, episodic work of dramatic fiction presented in serial format on television or radio. An example of this could be the classic eastenders. However soap operas have multiple characters who carry mulitude of storylines. They will appear, reappear and disappear at any given time. No single storyline will dominate.

Match On Action

Here is a good example of Match on action as the image is enlarged and focused on the book.
It is a cut in film editing from one scene to another in which the two camera shots' match, helping to establish a strong continuity of action  and linking two ideas.

Here a clip quickly demonstrating the 180 degree rule. The 180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other.

Serial

A serial will often be open ended, it will have a conclusion that draws the viewer for the same, unique viewing experince for the next programme. an example of a british drama which shows and demonstrate this is ITV 1 Brideshead Revisited which is based on on Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited. Here is an example of the programmes:

Shot/ Reverse shot & Match On action

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLkUHZ1qips Shot Reverse Shot  is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Here's an example where the two characters are engaged in a conversation in the at some sort of resturant . If u also notice there is a bit of Match on Action in this scene
